How much nicotine is in a traditional cigarette?
Our customers ask…
Q: How much nicotine is in a traditional cigarette?
A: Quitting smoking is one of the best gifts that you will ever give yourself. It is worth every effort in exploring every avenue that might work. Acquainting yourself with as much information as possible, including cigarette nicotine levels, can only add to your chance of success.
Unlike nicotine-containing e-juice that is controlled and carefully measured in precise levels, traditional cigarettes have many variables regarding how much nicotine one cigarette contains. The answer technically varies by brand, but according to most of the data out there, including CDC cigarette data, on average you absorb just under 1 mg of nicotine when you smoke a cigarette. A typical cigarette contains between 10-20 mg of nicotine, yet only about 1 mg is actually absorbed into the body. However, the amount of nicotine in a smoker’s bloodstream has more to do with how often you smoke rather than which brand you prefer. But you must also consider the tobacco additives in traditional cigarettes such as ammonia and tar that act as fuel to deliver nicotine as quickly as possible. So even though there isn’t a simple nicotine correlation between smoking and vaping, we can help guide you through the process.
Reputable vape stores, including Vape Escapes, offer a variety of nicotine levels, including a zero nicotine option. We can accommodate a graduated reduction in nicotine over time that may help you reach the ultimate goal of ridding your nicotine cravings altogether. When smokers want to switch to vaping, it is best to start at a level comparable to what they are used to in order to satisfy their cravings, and then start to go down in nicotine levels from there. Many vape stores only offer the popular lower nicotine levels designed for sub-ohm devices, which we carry at Vape Escapes too. However some new vapers prefer standard starter kits for their easy-to-use features and tighter mouth to lung draws similar to actual cigarettes. These devices may require e-juice with nicotine in the 12 mg, 18 mg and even 24 mg levels, which we also carry at Vape Escapes. Just as with traditional cigarettes, how often you smoke/vape is an important factor. With average vaping in a non-sub ohm device, 12 mg is equivalent to about a half-pack a day smoker while 24 mg is for those who use just over a pack a day.
If you don’t know the nicotine level of an e-juice or a pre-filled e-cig such as those you find in a convenience store, don’t buy it. Some retail e-cigarettes have very high nicotine levels – up to a 48 mg nicotine level. If you are not a heavy smoker, you actually run the risk of making your nicotine addiction worse when using these.
We, at Vape Escapes, understand how important it is to find the right nicotine level for you as it will help you achieve your goal of quitting smoking. You are a unique individual and it is important to look at your specific needs before suggesting a nicotine level that is best-suited for you. We take special care to ask the right questions to tailor your products to give you a great vaping experience. If you are already a Vaper, congratulations. If we can help someone you love to make the switch, bring them in to either of our comfortable stores and we will do our best to answer all of their questions and get them prepared for a successful transition from smoking.
