The Truth About Diacetyl
What is Diacetyl?
Diacetyl is a naturally occurring chemical found in low-concentration in apples, artichokes, beans, butter, coffee, dairy, fruits, honey, tobacco and vinegar.
Is Diacetyl harmful?
It has recently come to light that Diacetyl has been linked to lung damage called “Popcorn Lung” which is an incurable disease that causes scarring in the lungs. It can lead to excessive coughing and shortness of breath.
How do I know if Diacetyl is present in my E-Juice?
Have you ever noticed that some E-liquid flavors such as custards or desserts have that buttery aftertaste? That could be a sign that there is Diacetyl present. Research the brand you are purchasing and look for any lab tests that can prove Diacetyl isn’t an ingredient. Rest assured, all of Vape Escapes juice has lab tests to prove the absence of this chemical which can be found here.
How do I respond if someone approaches me about this subject?
If any of your friends/family are hesitant to quit smoking and start vaping, let them know that Cigarettes themselves already have Diacetyl in them, so finding E-Juice without this chemical can save them from possible lung damage because of it. Explain what Diacetyl is, and how to detect if it’s in their E-liquid. Have them do a little research to make sure the e-liquid manufacturer they are purchasing from has proper documentation to prove Diacetyl isn’t an added ingredient.
Happy Vaping!
